Just because you already have a CV this does not mean you should immediately start sending it out for job openings; you should first take the time to have someone evaluate your CV example. This is a critical step in the process of applying for a job because it will make sure your CV shines amongst the other applicants. One of the critical error job applicants make is thinking it is more important to be one of the first applicants than realizing it is more important to make sure your CV is flawless. We will provide some information on how you can have your CV example evaluated and edited.

It should come as no surprise that the Internet is one of the best resources for those who want to have a CV example evaluated. If you are already a member of a message board or forum for members of your industry, this may be an excellent resource for you. Having your CV example evaluated by members of these forums is worthwhile because the other members know a great deal about what type of information is important to employers.

However, you should be cautious about including your personal contact information as well as the name of your current and previous employers. By taking this step, you will protect yourself from being discovered by your colleagues or employer or, even worse, those who use the Internet to find potential victims.

Websites that post job openings and offer career advice also usually have some type of CV evaluation section. This may include the opportunity to have your CV example evaluated by a professional in the field of human resources or in the career search industry.

Headhunters and career counselors are another obvious source for having a CV evaluated. While the other evaluation services are usually free, you will likely have to pay for this type of counseling. In most cases the cost of this service will pay for itself if it helps you to land a job. Headhunters and career counselors can also help you in other ways. They can help you uncover job leads and offer guidance on how to land an interview.

A great CV example can make a potential employee seem more appealing to the potential employer. A great CV can also be the difference between landing a job and having it go to someone else while a poor CV can cost the job seeker a great job opportunity. Writing a CV should not be done in haste, instead care should be taken to write a CV that is truly effective. A poorly written CV can make a bad impression and result in the job seeker not being seriously considered for the position.

Finding a CV example is not very hard and the example can be used as a reference point in creating an original CV. The Internet can be used to find an online CV example to suit the job seekers needs. Popular search engines can be used to find a CV example similar to what the job seeker needs. Job seekers can find CV editors online to assist them. Job placements specialists also usually offer a variety of CV services. A CV example may be available through the office of a job placement specialist. Also, many job placement specialists offer to analyze CVs and assist in editing them to be more effective. There are resume writers available for a fee. Providing the resume writer with a relevant CV example and work profile will help them to create an effective CV. The areas of expertise necessary for the job will be made the focus of the CV.

There is one warning in relation to using a CV example found online or through another source. It is important to remember each CV example is copyrighted. Nevertheless, the job seeker should realize it is not permissible to simply copy one of these examples.  And do bear in mind, please do not be tempted to copy word for word, another person’s lifestory.  Any company worth their salt with spot this immediately. Do you really want the humiliation?

I am a hard working, reliable person. I have very good time keeping and excellent communication skills. I am eager to learn new skills and adapt to changes easily.

It should be no more than 3 lines long. They want a quick example of your skills not a 5 page story of your life.

I finished my master in Netherlands. I want to apply for nice jobs in a bank or financial firm.

Secondly, until that time I’m looking for part-time jobs.

There are bucketloads of sites online but I guess you are looking for jobs in English to start off with?

In which case http://www.undutchables.nl is the most famous one.
http://www.bluelynx.nl
http://www.xpatjobs.com
http://jobs.expatica.com/nl are also decent sites for English language jobs and also consider Monsterboard (which is in Dutch) and type "English" in the ‘trefwoord’ (keyword) field http://www.monsterboard.nl. This also allows you to place your cv for employers to find you.

http://www.intermediair.nl/ is also a good site for finding higher skilled jobs http://www.intermediair.nl/

Also look at visiting the job agencies as they are a good source of jobs and especially for part time / temporary ones You can find them in the English speaking yellow pages, for the place you live http://en.detelefoongids.nl/bedrijven.html?locale=en_NL&newSession=true.

One additional note, do be aware of the immigration side of things as well (assuming you are non-EEA) http://www.nuffic.nl/international-students/alumni/working-after-your-studies/working-after-your-studies

i had always studied history and yes i had some computer courses but is that enough in any cv for any common job or needs for example the whole office operation ? or any diploma in management?

It really depends on what job you are going for and what your degree is, some places want you to have a diploma or degree depending on your school , there are minors such as "small office management" and " administrative executive" . In a general setting core computer classes should be enough, it just depends on the prospective employer.

I am sending my CV to my WORK EXPERIENCE employer and I need to put a letter with it so that she knows who its from and other things. It needs to be quite formal but I do not know how to lay it out. It will be quite short but is still very important.

If you could post a link to an example letter layout that I need, that would be great.

Start with their name and address on the left hand corner.

Hit space bar twice and put in date such as 14 November 2009

Hit space bar twic

Start Dear Mr ? or Dear Mrs ? If you don’t know their name try to find out by ringing the company
If you can’t find out start with Dear Sir or Madam

Hit space bar twice

Please find enclosed my curriculum vitae. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Assuming you have put your full address and phone number on your cv, they will have no difficulty doing so.

I look forward to meeting you.

Your sincerely (if you have written to Dear Mr or Mrs)
Yours faithfully (if you have written to Dear Sir or Madam)

Hit space bar several times and type in enc

This is to indicate that there are enclosures in your envelope.

Link to a website or CV please? Or at least a name?
With neither of the doctorate degrees being an MD?

This is rare — most reputable universities will not accept you into a PhD program if you already have a PhD in another field. It sometimes does happen though if (A) you are getting simultaneous/joint PhDs or (B) your first PhD is from a country whose PhD isn’t accepted in the country you are now trying to teach in.

For an example of the former case: http://www.ua.txstate.edu/UA-departments/Hillviews_SS_08/doctorates.html

Any ideas? I don’t exactly know what goes into creating a CV? Has anyone got any detailed examples they can show me or a description of what they are and the layout; things like that?

If you wanna post CV’s to employers then you should write a cover letter (should be different each time depending on who you write to) it should outline why you wanna work there, and why they should employ you etc etc.

If you’re gonna hand them out in places then you won’t need that cover letter, so you should start with your name, it should stand out so use a larger font.
Underneath you should write your address, email and phone numbers.

Then write your personal profile highlighting your qualities and skills and generally anything you think the employer will be interested in, but DON’T babble keep it short but necessary.

Then write your education history, it should be ordered most recent to least, so in my case it dates as 2008 - present, then 2006-2008 (college results) and then 2001-2006 (school results).

Then write your career objectives, just stuff you’re hoping to do in the future, it can be made up if you’re not sure but make sure it applies to the job in some way

Then write out your work experience and previous employment history…including what you did, what company you worked for and what skills or benefits you gained from the job.

Then last give extra info like what you’re currently doing and how many hours you’d be available for work etc etc…I can email you the general layout of my CV if you want.
